| A request for bid was announced in 10 clusters seeking
specific ideas for innovation. Foundation has collaborated with FITT,
Delhi, to provide overall strategic guidance on technological issues. A
committee has been formed comprising members from leading banking
institutions, SME sector as well as the Department of Science &
Technology to evaluate the proposals received. The first meeting of the
committee was held on the 25th of June, 2008 wherein 15 such proposals
were evaluated of which 7 were sanctioned based on their economic and
social impact as also their potential for upscaling. |

Knitwear Machinery, Ludhiana: Two proposals have been received so far:
Installation of Design and Manufacturing software:
Following the launch of the program in the cluster, several
stakeholders have expressed interest and have come up with proposals
for technology automation and diffusion. For example, one proposal
received by the foundation is for installation of Design and
Manufacturing software. The software will not only automatically
generate designs but subsequently also help maximise the machine output.
Automatic Dry Cleaning Machine: Another expression of
interest proposes to replace the existing manually controlled dry
cleaning machines used in the manufacture of woollen garments with a
fully automatic machine developed in-house. The cluster envisages
greater quality control, lower turnaround time and hence higher market
share as a result of this automation.
Medical Disposables, Ahmedabad
Solvent Dispenser: The first proposal visualizes the
use of "solvent dispensers" to replace the manual "low boiler" process
used to join tubes and such parts at various stages of the
manufacturing process. The current process in use is hazardous to human
health, quality of the instrument, leads to wastage and lower
efficiency all of which can be effectively addressed by substituting
with the proposed "solvent dispensers".
Leak Test Equipment: Instruments such as IV tubes are
used in many critical medical procedures and they must be leak proof.
However given the manual testing methods used in checking for leakages,
accuracy rate is low as against the desired 100% accuracy given the
nature of its usage. The manufacturing units have expressed interest in
developing systems and equipments whereby the leak testing procedure
can be automated.

Design, Development and Manufacturing of Insufflator:
Insufflator is a device which keeps the abdomen inflated during the
surgery so that scope and other instruments can be accommodated inside
the space. To serve this purpose the idea is to pump the CO2 - carbon
dioxide and keep the optimum pressure in such a way that any leakage
through the puncture made for the insertion of instrument can be
compensated and also does not damage the body parts inside because of
the high pressure.
Design, Development and Manufacturing of Rf Monopolar and Bipolar Unit:
High radio frequency (RF) monopolar and bipoalr unit is the surgical
unit used during the high end surgeries like cardiac, neuro,
laparoscopic, etc.. Where monopolar and bipolar cutting and
coagulation of tissues, muscles are required.
This unit will operate at very high radio frequencies making the
operation very smooth, without charring the tissue, without peripheral
damage and with less usage of power as compared to the typically
used.
Introduction of Automatic Assembly Equipments to enhance operative efficiency and hence productivity
Sports Goods, Jalandhar
Proposal seeks support for introduction of two different machines, "revolving screen printing" and "long flat table screen printing"
machines. The cluster would be trained in the usage of these machines.
It is estimated that this will lead to 20% saving on time and 30-40% on
manpower cost
Sal Leaf, Baripada
Proposal to establish a "Product and Technology Development Centre"
where innovations will be developed and demonstrated and disseminated
in the areas of product diversification, cost saving technologies,
productivity enhancement and quality improvement
